AeroPress Original Coffee Maker
Invented in 2005 by Stanford engineer Alan Adler, the AeroPress has become one of the most beloved brewing devices in specialty coffee. It combines immersion brewing with pressure filtration to produce a remarkably clean, full-bodied cup in under two minutes.
Why Baristas Love the AeroPress
The AeroPress gives you complete control over every variable that affects extraction: water temperature, brew time, grind size, agitation, and pressure. This is why it has its own World Championship — the World AeroPress Championship (WAC) — where baristas from over 60 countries compete with wildly different recipes using the same device. No other brewer offers this range of experimentation in such a compact, forgiving format.
What Makes It Different
Unlike a French press, the AeroPress uses paper micro-filters that remove grit and oils, producing a clean cup without bitterness. Unlike pour-over, you control contact time independently of flow rate — steep as long as you want, then press when ready. The result sits somewhere between filter coffee and espresso: concentrated, smooth, and endlessly adjustable. Use the standard method for a classic brew, or flip it inverted for full immersion control.
How to Brew with the AeroPress
Start with 15–18g of medium-fine ground coffee and 200ml of water at 85–92°C. Pour the water, stir for 10 seconds, and press gently for 20–30 seconds. Total brew time: under 2 minutes. For a stronger concentrate, use the inverted method: place the plunger in first, add coffee and water, steep for 90 seconds, attach the filter cap, flip, and press. Dilute with hot water for an Americano-style drink or enjoy as a concentrated shot.
